In appreciation of your contributions to the university, you can receive an individual or group  Rector’s Award, granted by the rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.

For outstanding service to the Republic of Poland, you have the right to apply for state orders and decorations. Additionally, you are entitled to jubilee awards, depending on the years of service.

Rector’s Award for academic teachers


Academic teachers may receive the Rector's Awards for the following achievements:

  • research, including artistic accomplishments,
  • research and development activity,
  • didactic or organizational,
  • entire output (in the year of the employee's retirement).

These awards may be granted as individual or team awards for achievements in the calendar year preceding the year of submitting the application. Receiving an individual award does not exclude from the team awards.

Applications for awards are accepted by HR Center by 31 May each year. The applicants may be vice-rectors, deans and heads of organizational units.

The decision on granting the awards is made by the rector, following verification and opinion from the Rector’s Committee for Awards for Academic Teachers.

Prizes are paid out by 1 October of the year in which the prize are awarded.

Academic teachers awarded by the rector also receive diplomas, which copies are stored in personal files.

Special Rector’s Awards for academic teachers


Rector's awards may also be granted to outstanding academic teachers for special achievements. The subject of the application for a special award may be an outstanding individual activity of special value for the development and recognition of Gdańsk University of Technology. A maximum of three awards are assigned for such achievements.

Rector's awards for young researchers


Research staff, as well as research and teaching staff who have not reached the age of 35 before the year of submitting the application, may apply for the Rector’s Award for Young Researchers.

The application for the award may concern scientific, research and development and artistic achievements, subject to parametric evaluation.

Award for obtaining the title of professor


An academic teacher who obtained the title of professor receives an obligatory award.

Applications for the obligatory award are submitted by the vice-rector for organization and development on the basis of documentation provided by the Head of the Personnel Department of HR Center.

Rector’s Awards for non-academic staff


Non-academic staff may receive Rector's Awards for achievements in professional work in the preceding year. The decision to grant awards is made by the rector on the basis of applications submitted to HR Center by the heads of individual organizational units of the university.

Information on the award fund approved by the rector and the deadline for submitting applications is provided to the heads of the units by the Payroll Department.

Awards shall be paid by 5 October of the year in which they were awarded.

Employees awarded by the rector receive diplomas, which copies are stored in personal files.

Rector's distinctions for non-academic employees


Once a year, the Rector also awards distinctions to employees who are not academic teachers and are members of teams or committees who, in the year preceding the award of the distinction, completed tasks that were important for the University and did not result from the basic scope of duties of these employees. The decision to award awards is made by the rector on the basis of applications submitted to the HR Center by heads of individual organizational units of the university and chairmen of teams or committees.

Members of the distinguished team receive diplomas during a ceremonial meeting of the GUT Senate. A copy of the diploma is kept in the personal file. These distinctions are taken into account in the periodic evaluation of employees who are not academic teachers.

Decorations, medals


Orders and decorations awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland are the highest distinction for merits for the country.

Applications for the award of the following orders and decorations are submitted to the Ministry of Science and Higher Education

  • Order of Polonia Restituta - awards for outstanding merit in the service of the state and society, i.e.: outstanding achievements in state and public activities undertaken for the benefit of the country, special merit in strengthening the country's sovereignty and defense, special merits in the development of the national economy, public service and distinguished scientific, literary and artistic creativity, outstanding contribution to development of cooperation between the Republic of Poland and other countries and nations;
  • Cross of Merit - awards for service to the state or citizens by activity exceeding the scope of one’s usual duties, through self-sacrificing public activity, self-sacrificing help and charity activities;
  • Medal for Long-Time Service - awards for exemplary, exceptionally conscientious performance of duties resulting from professional work in the service of the Republic of Poland.

The award for special merits in education, in particular in the field of didactic activity, is the Medal of the Commission of National Education (KEN).

The superior (dean, director of a center and the chancellor in the case of employees of central administration) applies for the award to be granted to an employee. The superiors are informed about the deadline for submitting applications for decorations in the rector's letter at the beginning of each year. Applications, following a review by the Rector's Committee for Orders and Distinctions and the KEN Medal and approved by the Rector, are sent to the Ministry of Education and Science, by 31 March of a given calendar year.

Jubilee awards


The employee is entitled to a jubilee award in the amount proportional to the years of continuous employment:

  • 75% of monthly salary – for 20 years of work;
  • 100% of monthly salary – for 25 years of work;
  • 150% of monthly salary – for 30 years of work;
  • 200% of monthly salary – for 35 years of work;
  • 300% of monthly salary – for 40 years of work;
  • 400% of monthly salary – for 45 years of work.

Documents confirming the length of service, which are taken into account in calculation of seniority:

  • employment certificates confirming employment outside Gdańsk Tech,
  • certificate confirming the period of receiving unemployment benefit from the employment office,
  • certificate of completed PhD studies and obtaining a PhD degree,
  • a document confirming military service,
  • documents regarding payment of insurance in KRUS/running a farm.

Documents entitling to the seniority award in a foreign language should be delivered together with their translation into Polish, made by a sworn translator.
